Neal Alexander Monroe is a Ph.D. candidate of World Language and ESL Education in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee. He looks forward to celebrating the completion of his dissertation study, Language choices in discursive spaces, in May of 2026.
He is the doctoral advisee of Dr. Clara Lee Brown, Associate Professor of ESL Education, supporting the grant-supported project: Influence of English-only laws on mainstream teachers’ instructional and literacy practices.

He is also the graduate research assistant of Dr. Joy G. Bertling, Associate Professor of Art Education, contributing to the federal grant-supported project: The arts-based data visualization project professional learning study.  
His research interests include bilingualism and biculturalism, language ideology, translanguaging, teacher education, and mixed methods research.
